Who is G.B., and Why Should I Care?!

G.B. = Gary Berg.  In the Volkswagen Industry, the well known name of Berg, is synonymous with Quality and Performance. GB Adventures is Gary Berg's dream come true.  His love of VW's, people, and Hawaii come together to provide you with the best vacation VALUE, and lots of FUN !

Gary Berg was born and raised in  Renton, Washington. His VW loving family consisted of his dad; Gene, mom; Dee, brothers Clyde and Doug.  He grew up around Gene's VW repair and performance shop.  In 1969, the family moved to Orange County, California where Gene started up the family business of selling quality high performance VW parts; Gene Berg Enterprises.  Gary began manufacturing these high performance engine parts while still in grade school.

Berg's famous 67 sedanGary prepared and drove the Berg legal NHRA/A Modified Compact race car from 1973 to a best of runner up in the world in 1976 and 3rd in 1977 over all type cars.  Gary has driven this race car to more wins and runner ups in NHRA meets and Bug-Ins than any VW in history to this day.  In 1992 he set the PRA Super Street record 3 times and won the championship.  In 1993 he raced only 2 events, 1 win, 1 runner up, re-set the record again to 10.39-127.27 MPH and still finished 6th in points for the year.

In 1995 Gary took his car on a four month racing tour in Australia, scoring the national SS/C record; 10.37 at 129.92 mph.

In 1996, Gene Berg passed away.  Gary continued on with Gene Berg Enterprises until 1997, when he moved back to Seattle.  He worked there with Art Morrison, a famous chassis builder until 1999.

In 1999, he opened his own successful High Performance VW shop.  He worked with Rick Chichesters mid 13. second 1/4 mile street car, and Brian Hyerstay NHRA record setting G/Dragster 9.27 ETs.  VW TREND MAGAZINE voted Gary one of the top ten racing engine builders on the west coast. (Jan.2000 issue)

Gary attended a New Year Millennium party with his friends in Hawaii.  But once back home in Seattle, he felt the tug of the Big Island's energy.  It was too much, so he closed up shop, packed up and moved to the Big Island.  By 2002, he began creating this business of offering visitors a more eco-friendly, adventurous way of touring this beautiful Island.  By camping out in your own Westfalia Bus, visitors can experience it's awesome energy in a much more close and personal setting.
